Bio

Neil E. Wilson, 89, Wilson Road died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown surrounded by his loved ones.

Born August 24, 1924 in Theresa, NY, he was the son of Alfred and Margaret Honeywell Wilson and was educated at Theresa High School.

He married Betty J. Farrell on September 20, 1947 at her sister's home in Alexandria Bay.

Mr. Wilson worked on the family farm, was a carpenter with Carpenter' s Union Local 278 and developed, owned and operated Wilson's Hyde Lake Camp Sites, Theresa along with his brother, Roger from 1962 to 2002. He was also an employee with the Department of Environmental Conservation, retiring from there in 1991.

He was a member of the former Theresa United Methodist church, serving as trustee, a communicant of the Theresa Presbyterian Church, serving as trustee, the Theresa Emergency Corps., forty nine year member of the Theresa Fire Department and served forty five years as Commissioner of the Theresa Fire District.

Mr. Wilson was a NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed attending races at the CanAm Speedway in LaFargeville. He was also an avid ice fisherman and golfer.

Survivors including his wife, Betty are a son and his wife, Steven and Flora, Theresa a daughter, Nancy Wilson, Malone two grandchildren, Tamra Shawcross, NC and Troy Wilson and his wife, Stepahanie, VA and five great grandchildren, Destinee, Raven, Lauren, Aaron and Kristen. He is also survived by a sister and her husband, Mary and John Nellie, Syracuse.

A brother, Roger Wilson and a son, Robert Wilson died before him.

The funeral will be 11 am on Wednesday at the Theresa Presbyterian Church with Pastor Robert Vrooman officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.

Calling hours are are 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

Donations may be made to the Theresa Fire Department or the Theresa Presbyterian Church.
